Passenger Security Screening
Observational Techniques and Behavior Analysis
LAN Airlines Security Training
LAN Airlines, Latin America’s leading Air carrier, recently implemented Rovertech’s Passenger Security Screening program, and completed the first phase of Airport Security Training for their security staff.
Observational Techniques and Behavior Analysis
Passenger Security Screening
The program allows Airline and Airport security personnel to identify behaviors and indicators that can alert them for further screening, and to communicate their suspicions effectively with other security agencies and law enforcement. The second phase will focus on Passenger Risk Assessments and Mitigation Techniques.

Airport Security Training
Airport Security Training and Passenger Screening
Airport Security training has evolved since the Terrorist attacks of 9/11 and a greater emphasis has been placed on Observation Techniques, known as “Behavior Profiling.” Observation Techniques can spot Deceptive Behavior displayed by a Passenger during the Security Screening process, and can lead the Airport Security Officer to determine if additional screening is necessary.
Observation Techniques Training require a simple, logical, sequential, and systematic approach to learning the observation and application of Behavior in an Airport terminal setting. For officers responsible for Airport Security this means the understanding of Human Behavior in an Airport Terminal, gaining the ability to select passengers based on Deceptive Behavior indicators, and being able to verbalize their observations with greater detail and confidence. Knowing that what they observe presents a risk to the security of the aviation system.
Behavior Observation Training for Airport Security
Knowing and understanding how the perpetrator behaves in an airport terminal, Behavior Profiling, is the first step towards passenger security. When we consider that 99% of the traveling public is not involved in an illegal activity that requires action on the part of the Airport Security Officer, it is easy to see why the public becomes frustrated with the 100% percent inspection that takes place now during the Security Screening. Airport Security remains a mechanical process and only limited steps have been taken to understand the advantages of Behavior Observation, training and the development of new procedures will make this a viable option in Airport Security.
Training how “Deceptive Behavior” is recognized, identified, and communicated across all groups responsible for Airport Security during the screening of passenger requires a common terminology between the Airline Security, Airport Security, Ground Security Coordinators, and Law Enforcement. Training on Behavior Observation Techniques in an Airport Terminal Setting can improve Passenger Security, expedite Passenger Screening, but ultimately, it is the training and constant adaptation of the Airport Security codes and regulations to include and recognize the application of Behavior Observation Techniques as a solution to Airport Security.
